In addition to exhibition, the grade 5 students have selected two local charities to support for this month's Casual Dress Day on the 27th of April 2018: Impact HK and Sai Kung Stray Friends. Impact HK's mission is to support the homeless with kindness and empower them for change and the Sai Kung Stray Friends provides food, kennel and care to stray dogs in Sai Kung. These two organisations have been selected through the work the G5 students have been doing with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Please join the G5 students by bringing in your donation and participating in a non-uniform day tomorrow, the 27th of April. For more information, have a conversation with a G5 student or visit the organisational websites.
8.5 Kilos diverted from the landfill today by the PS Compost Ambassadors in Service to School.26/4/2018 Students began learning about the impact of refusing, reducing, reusing and recycling through the curriculum in their Sharing the Planet Unit of Inquiry back in August 2017. This led them to initiate responsible action to make HKA operate more sustainably. Eight months later they are still going and are now collecting data by weighing the waste they are diverting from the landfill as part of their service to school. The food waste will be composted to make a valuable resource for our Organic Inquiry Gardens and provide tasty seasonal vegetables to our canteen. This month’s primary school Casual Dress Day, 23rd of March 2018, will be in support of The Nature Conservancy. First graders have been inquiring into how caring for plants is essential for our survival. The Nature Conservancy is a non-profit, worldwide organization whose mission it is to protect the lands and waters on which all life depends. All primary students and staff choosing to participate are encouraged to bring a donation and to wear green clothing on Friday, the 23rd of March to represent an Earth filled with plants and forests. For more information on The Nature Conservancy, please visit www.nature.org
