This week, when you are visiting the library, I will be in another room, attending a course with other teachers from our school. I thought this would be a great opportunity for a flipped library/librarian trial. (People talk of a flipped classroom when students work independently, instructed and guided by video tutorials - usually from home.)
This is your chance to work totally independently and at your own pace while in the library today. Ms. Phyllis is of course there to help and support you when and where needed.
I hope you enjoy this different library experience!
Our main goals for today are:
(1) Revisiting what the habits of lifelong ("wild") reading are.
(Based on Donalyn Miller's Book Reading in the Wild.)
(2) Getting started on Destiny Quest by sending and accepting friend requests and updating shelves.
Ready? Okay, here we go:
Watch the embedded video to find out what a "wild reader" is.
Think about the five habits of "wild" (lifelong) readers: which is the easiest for you to achieve and which one do you find the most challenging to achieve. If needed, watch the video another time. Then complete the following Google Form:
5ai Lifelong Reading Habits (Google Form)
5ren Lifelong Reading Habits (Google Form)
Watch the following video which provides a quick introduction to Destiny Quest.
Watch the following video - even if you know exactly where to find Destiny Quest. The log in information has slightly changed. (Ms. Phyllis will share the new passwords with you.)
Open a new tab on your computer and log in to Destiny Quest. (Watch the video again if you need more help or ask a friend.)
Watch the following video on how to send a friend request on Destiny Quest.
(You can skip this video if you remember how to do this task from last year.)
Go to Destiny Quest and send friend requests to your new classmates. You can keep friends you added to your account last year on your list.
Watch the following video on how to update your shelves on Destiny Quest.
(You can skip this video if you remember how to update your shelves from last year.)
Update your shelves on Destiny Quest. Add books to all three shelves: Have Read, Now Reading, and Want to Read.
Remember, you can add only books that we have in our library.
Write a comment to this blog post in which you share three things:
1. Something you already knew about Destiny Quest before today.
2. Something you learned about Destiny Quest today.
3. Something you still wonder about Destiny Quest.
Remember to follow the guidelines for posting and commenting on a website.
Thank you for being such great risk-takers today in trying out something new.
