G3 students have taken the doodle to a whole new level. First, students tried out different Zentangle drawing techniques in their sketchbooks, before exploring the properties of different tools and materials. Students used the technique on scratch-board, and also had the chance to experiment with recycled polystyrene to make prints in the printing press.

Magical Creatures are coming to life in kindergarten. Students recycled boxes of different geometric shapes to create a structure before using paper mache to strengthen the forms. The magical creatures were painted with gesso before the break, and will be ready for students to paint and decorate upon their return to school. Stay tuned as students return to the original provocation, Sean Tan's The Lost Thing, to publish their own books about their magical creatures. During art exploration, PK2 experimented with some new ways of making mark, printing with recycled polystyrene. Students explored the effects of white ink on dark paper as well as dark ink on white paper, making different kinds of mark and quality of line, and generally getting messy. In collaboration with the UOI Sharing the Planet, students G3 students collected rubbish from their snacks and lunches to create a self portrait to address the UOI Central Idea: Personal choices can have a positive or negative effect on the environment. Students have categorized the different rubbish and recyclable materials, tested which glues work the best, and experimented with different ways of turning trash into an art supply. After using a mold and deckle to make sheets of paper, G5 students used recycled materials to create frames and experimented with paper making process to create different shapes of paper. In the first semester of G5, students will be looking at the art inventions of Ancient China, including paper, printing and ceramic vessels. In the first unit, students are learning the steps of the paper making process by making paper from recycled materials. Taking action can be big or small.
This week, a student brought in a bag made out of non-recyclable wrappers that her auntie had made. Students and teachers were inspired to think a little differently about creative reuse. Taking Action can be as simple and sharing a great idea ! During their unit, Sharing The Planet, G3 students look closely at how personal choices effect the environment. Students have begun to collect their own rubbish to analyse it before using it to create a work of art. While they have been collecting wrappers at snack, students are encouraged to collect non-recyclable rubbish from home as well. During their Sharing the Planet unit, G3 Students explored the properties of different items that end up in the trash and created their own Rubbish Self Portraits. G3 Rubbish Portraits will be on display in the stairwells and on the 3rd floor beginning October 31st through November. Don't miss the chance to see all of these creative works on display at once ! ![]() G5 Students will be studying some of China's ancient arts and crafts such as paper making. We will use wire hangers bent and nylon stockings to create our own paper making frames. You can help by gleaning out these unused items from your closets and sock drawers. Donations can be dropped off to room 306. |
